Jessica

I’m a senior psychology and English double major, interested in teaching as a career.  I became passionate about education and the achievement gap when, through a series of research papers in my freshman English class, I learned about the inequities in our education system.  Growing up in a suburban town, I had the opportunity to attend excellent public schools, and I found it appalling that some receive a poorer education just because where they happened to be born and other external factors such as socioeconomic status.  I am currently awaiting the decision about whether I will be accepted into Teach for America, but regardless plan to pursue to teaching – specifically in a high-need area.  I also interned at KIPP DC my sophomore year in a 5^th grade reading class.  I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and look forward to working with the children of Gaston.
